Ko Whai Māia te peka whakawhanake o Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. He huhua ngā kōkiri a tēnei peka, ko te mātauranga me te ako, ko te reo Māori me te ahurea tuakiri a Ngāti Whātua, ko ngā umanga me te mahi, ko ngā whare, ko te hauora me te oranga, ko te mahi tāpoi me ngā taonga tuku iho, ko te tiaki taiao me te penapena rawa
Te Puna Reo Okahukura (‘Te Puna Reo’) takes its name from a place in the Kaipara Harbour, Tāporapora, that was close to the last ancient whare wānanga of Ngāti Whātua. This centre is committed to providing quality early learning for pepī (babies) and nohinohi (toddlers), Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei established the early learning centre, Te Puna Reo Okahukura in 2007.
Te Puna Reo is an accredited early learning centre that is registered for 45 tamariki and teaches through kaupapa māori worldviews. The Puna offers 20 hours for tamariki 3 years and older and has qualified and experienced kaimahi, many of whom are of Ngāti Whātua descent.
Te Puna Reo Okahukura is a joint early childhood education initiative between Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and the Ministry of Education. The Puna Reo is part of a long-term kaupapa (plan) of educational excellence for the hapū where knowledge and understanding of te reo māori me ngā tikanga (language and customs) are a foundation
Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity
We are seeking caring, reliable, and reo Māori-minded individuals to join our whānau as Kairīwhi (Reliever). This is a casual position where you’ll support our kaiako and tamariki as and when needed. Whether you’re already experienced in early childhood or just beginning your journey in kaupapa Māori education, we’d love to hear from you.
Ngā tino pūkenga/whēako | Qualifications & Experience
- Passionate about tamariki and kaupapa Māori education
- A reliable and flexible team player
- Qualified or unqualified, all are welcome
- Have a basic understanding of te reo Māori and a strong willingness to learn more, fluency is a definite advantage

We are the tangata whenua of Tāmaki with our mana over the land and sea being underpinned by take tūpuna (ancestral relationships), take raupatu (taking of the land and sea by traditional warfare), ahi kā (unbroken occupation) and tuku whenua (traditional gifting of land ).
Ko au te tangata whenua o Tāmaki pokapū me Te Waitematā. He take tupuna, he take raupatu, he ahi kā, he tuku whenua, te takenga mai o tōku rangatiratanga, ki runga o Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri e hora ake nei.
