Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunity
We are looking for a full-time (40 hours per week) Fitness Trainer to work at our Takatū Gym, creating tailored fitness and wellbeing plans for whānau and community.
Evaluating whānau/kaimahi fitness levels, you will use a holistic response to build individual exercise programmes, explaining proper use of the gym equipment and monitoring whānau progress.
Working for Toi Ora (Health Services) and reporting to the Pou Manawa, you will advise whānau and kaimahi on beneficial nutritional and lifestyle changes, referring them to other services as and when required. You will also be required to lead group training sessions, outdoor or offsite training sessions and maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of gym equipment.
The role also requires research and keeping up to date with new exercise techniques and trends, to improve whanau and kaimahi outcomes.

Ngā tino pūkenga/whēako | Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of Certificate III in Fitness (Group Fitness).
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Fitness Registration (desirable).
- Previous experience as a fitness trainer or relevant role.
- Knowledge of various fitness programmes and approaches, from strength and conditioning, to boxing and circuit training.
- Experience in guiding and motivating whānau and clients.
- Experience working in a team.
- Knowledge of matauranga Maori and applying it to the work environment
- The ability to build relationships and manage accurate and confidential client records is also necessary.
