Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is a hapū of Ngāti Whātua. We live in and around the Tāmaki isthmus. We hold to our mana motuhake, our history, our culture, our identity, and our reo. Our whakapapa traces to Tuperiri and the hapū Ngā Oho, Te Taoū, and Te Uringutu.
We are tangata whenua in Tāmaki. Our authority over land and sea rests on take tupuna, take raupatu, ahi kā, and tuku whenua.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust looks after the collective affairs of our hapū. We have more than 8,000 registered members across Aotearoa and overseas. Ōrākei Marae is our cultural hub.
Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri describes the protective reach of our ancestor across our rohe.
Purpose of the role
Our mahi is growing fast, and to deliver on some significant kaupapa ahead, we are strengthening our internal capability and capacity across our team.
As part of this growth, our People & Performance function has evolved, and we are now seeking for a talented, values-driven HR practitioner to join our Toi Tangata People & Performance team.
If you are a culturally competent, grounded HR practitioner who is seeking meaningful mahi, enjoys working closely with people, and is looking to step away from a purely corporate environment into kaupapa driven work that makes a real difference, we would love to hear from you.
You will play a key role in supporting line managers, leading ER case management, and embedding core P&P processes such as goal setting, salary reviews, performance matters, and workforce planning. The role is varied and fast-paced, balancing advisory expertise with cultural competency, ensuring kaimahi are supported to thrive.

Essential
Must hold a tertiary NZ HR or legal qualification and have recent understanding in current NZ
At least 2- 3 years working as a Human Resource Business Partner with a strong focus on ER issues, policies and enhancing performance
Must be used to partnering within a business with proven shifts in performance metrics
Strong cultural competency ideally gained from working in an iwi or similar context
Proven capability around accuracy, management of privacy and disciplined management of files
Desirable
Familiarity with HR systems (HRIS, ATS, LMS) and confident with technology.

Key Responsibilities:
Partner with line managers to deliver timely and effective P&P advice.
Lead and support ER case management, ensuring professional and culturally appropriate outcomes.
Support and strengthen line manager capability, confidence, and cultural awareness.
Ensure compliance with employment legislation, policies, and privacy standards.
Contribute to continuous improvement of P&P processes and systems.
