Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is a hapū of Ngāti Whātua. We live in and around the Tāmaki isthmus. We hold to our mana motuhake, our history, our culture, our identity, and our reo. Our whakapapa traces to Tuperiri and the hapū Ngā Oho, Te Taoū, and Te Uringutu.
We are tangata whenua in Tāmaki. Our authority over land and sea rests on take tupuna, take raupatu, ahi kā, and tuku whenua.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust looks after the collective affairs of our hapū. We have more than 8,000 registered members across Aotearoa and overseas. Ōrākei Marae is our cultural hub.
Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri describes the protective reach of our ancestor across our rohe.
Te kaupapa o te tūranga I Purpose of the role
We are seeking an experienced Learning and Career Development Manager to lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of learning and development strategies that build the capability, confidence, and leadership of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. This role plays a critical part in realising iwi aspirations by enabling lifelong learning, meaningful career progression, and leadership development grounded in Te Ao Māori.

Working in close partnership with the Toi Mātauranga & Whanaketanga Chief Knowledge and Growth Officer, kaimahi, whānau, and trusted partners, you will help shape and grow a strong, capable, and future-focused Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei workforce - supporting both current talent and the next generation to thrive.
Key Result Areas
Design and lead NWŌ centred learning and career development frameworks grounded in Te Ao Māori and mātauranga Māori
Ensure learning strategies align with iwi aspirations and organisational Strategy, with strong engagement from kaimahi and whānau
Create clear career pathways supporting whānau into education, apprenticeships, employment, and leadership roles
Build and maintain strong partnerships with education and industry to deliver meaningful opportunities and outcomes
Oversee delivery and evaluation of training and pathway programmes, demonstrating high participation, positive feedback, and measurable skill and career progression
Lead and develop a high-performing Learning and Career Development team
Uphold the tikanga and mātāpono of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei across all mahi

Ngā tino pūkenga / wheako | Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Resources/Learning and Development/Education or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
Demonstrated ability to design and deliver impactful programmes.
Knowledge of education and employment systems in Aotearoa.
Competency in te reo Māori or strong commitment to learning.
Experience working in or with iwi, hapū, or Māori organisations.
