Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is a hapū of Ngāti Whātua. We live in and around the Tāmaki isthmus. We hold to our mana motuhake, our history, our culture, our identity, and our reo. Our whakapapa traces to Tuperiri and the hapū Ngā Oho, Te Taoū, and Te Uringutu.
We are tangata whenua in Tāmaki. Our authority over land and sea rests on take tupuna, take raupatu, ahi kā, and tuku whenua.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust looks after the collective affairs of our hapū. We have more than 8,000 registered members across Aotearoa and overseas. Ōrākei Marae is our cultural hub.
Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri describes the protective reach of our ancestor across our rohe.
Purpose of the role
In this fixed term role, you will walk alongside tangata whaiora and their whānau, providing practical, strengths-based support grounded in kaupapa Māori values. You will help plan, deliver, and review support services that reflect the goals and aspirations of whānau, while ensuring care is safe, coordinated, and culturally responsive.

Ngā tino pūkenga/whēako | Qualifications & Experience
Lived experience of mental health and/or addiction, with the ability to use this safely and constructively in your mahi
Strong relationship-building skills and a genuine commitment to supporting whānau
Understanding of kaupapa Māori approaches and culturally responsive practice
Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with community providers
Good organisational skills, including accurate record keeping and data integrity
Commitment to professional development and reflective practice

Work directly with whānau experiencing mild to moderate mental health and addiction challenges
Plan, deliver, and review support based on individual and whānau goals
Develop and maintain safety plans, prioritising wellbeing at all times
Maintain clear, accurate, and confidential records to meet compliance requirements
Support whānau to access health, social, and community services
Advocate for whānau needs and help remove barriers to accessing support
Build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners
Contribute to coordinated, holistic care for tangata whaiora and whānau
Uphold kaupapa Māori approaches including manaakitanga, whakawhanaungatanga, and whakaute
Participate in supervision and ongoing professional development
Contribute to service improvement and quality outcomes
Adhere to organisational policies, health and safety requirements, and professional standards
