Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is a hapū of Ngāti Whātua. We live in and around the Tāmaki isthmus. We hold to our mana motuhake, our history, our culture, our identity, and our reo. Our whakapapa traces to Tuperiri and the hapū Ngā Oho, Te Taoū, and Te Uringutu.
We are tangata whenua in Tāmaki. Our authority over land and sea rests on take tupuna, take raupatu, ahi kā, and tuku whenua.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust looks after the collective affairs of our hapū. We have more than 8,000 registered members across Aotearoa and overseas. Ōrākei Marae is our cultural hub.
Te Kahu Tōpuni o Tuperiri describes the protective reach of our ancestor across our rohe.
Purpose of the role
This fixed term role provide hands-on operational support across setup, event delivery, and pack down for Hautapu 2026. The role ensures the event site is prepared, maintained, and restored safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei values and cultural expectations.
The mahi will be primarily outdoors and subject to winter weather conditions
Role requires a strong “can-do” attitude, reliability, and willingness to support across all event phases
Fixed term contract from 30th June - 17th July

Essential
Physically capable of manual handling, including lifting up to 20kg
Able to work early morning shifts, including pre-dawn starts (~04:00) for Hautapu event days
Strong reliability and attendance record
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Willingness to learn and follow direction
Good communication skills
Desirable
Full or restricted driver’s licence
Previous experience in event operations, logistics, or manual work environments
Basic understanding of health and safety practices

Key Result Areas:
The Event Support role will assist with the safe and efficient setup, operation, and pack down of event sites. Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the setup of event infrastructure, including gazebos, furniture, signage, barriers, and operational areas.
Assisting with the assembly and placement of signage in line with event site plans.
Receiving, unloading, moving, and distributing event deliveries and equipment across site locations.
Acting as a runner to support real-time operational needs and responding promptly to direction from the Operations Lead.
Assisting with staging, storage, and organisation of event assets to ensure equipment is correctly located and accounted for.
Supporting event pack down, site clean-up, and the return of equipment to storage areas.
Following all Health and Safety procedures, including safe lifting and handling of equipment up to 20kg.
Reporting hazards, risks, or incidents promptly and demonstrating safe working practices at all times.
